When I told people, I was headed to Moab for a long weekend full of hiking, camping, and general exploring, the general consensus was – “ohhhh, you can literally camp anywhereeee in Moab.”

Since this is a post on camping in Moab, let me tell y’all this is NOT true (or else you know, this post wouldn’t need to be written). Since my travels in South America, I went from an extreme planner to more of a winging it kind of style. However, since I would be arriving at 10pm on a Friday in May aka a weekend AND pitch black during the busy season… I figured I better dig in a little. Wrapping my head around everything was a little confusing since nothing seemed to be in one place, but hopefully, this is a one shop stop!

Happy (final day of) National Parks Week! You may have missed it, but last Saturday was the first day of National Parks Week and all parks were free! If you didn’t get a chance to make it to the parks Saturday, you still have three more chances this year to get in for free – National Park Service Birthday (August 25th), National Public Lands Day (September 28th), and Veterans Day (November 11th).

In honor of National Parks Week, today’s post is about a hike in my own backyard located in… Rocky Mountain National Park!

Living in Denver (hi, it’s been a while… I made the cross country move to Colorado in December), there is no shortage of gorgeous hikes within an hours drive of the city. I mean, after all, that is part of the reason I decided to call this place home. However, I think I may have found the BEST views for when you don’t have the time to hike up that 14’er.

How do you feel about relatively low effort, high reward? The perfect place to take all your out of town visitors who want beautiful views, but low on time (or not big hikers)? Or really just for you when you want to a short jaunt in nature close to Denver with allllll the views? Perfect, because Chief Mountain is the hike for you.

chilean road trip: exploring the carretera austral

The famous Carretera Austral – otherwise known at Chile’s Route 7 which runs 1,240km/770mi from Puerto Montt in the North to Villa O’Higgins in the South. This mostly unpaved road is the jumping off point for some of the most of the beautiful parts of Patagonia.

This road trip is easiest to see with your own car, but (infrequent) public transportation (bus), hitchhiking, and biking are also options. I didn’t manage to see the entire route, only about half, but it marks some of the best times in South America (but also, some of the hardest travel wise!).

Beautiful scenery, rugged nature, wild camping, endless trekking opportunities – this Patagonia road trip is 100% full of adventure.
